Sophia Hollander of the Wall Street Journal has written an article analyzing a new bill that would revise New York’s divorce laws.
The bill seeks to overturn New York law that includes the value of a spouse’s professional licenses / degree as marital property and creates a new method of calculating the length and amount of maintenance (formerly known as alimony).
As Ms. Hollander notes, many practitioners and professional associations, including the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers do not favor this bill.
